By River Boat

Greenwich Pier from Tower of London, Charing Cross and Westminster.

Queen Elizabeth I was able to travel to Greenwich in under an hour from Whitehall with a boat of strong rowers and a favourable tide. Today you can cruise from Westminster, Waterloo, Embankment and Tower Piers in approximately the same time and see some of London’s finest buildings from the river. If you have a Travelcard you can get a 33% discount. You could combine the boat trip with a faster return journey by Docklands Light Railway to Bank, Canary Wharf, Tower Gateway, Stratford, Lewisham or by rail to Charing Cross, Lewisham and many places in Kent. By Coach

There is free coach parking adjacent to the A2 in Charlton Way, located on the south side of Greenwich Park. The coach park is close to the Royal Observatory — a short walk through the park. Longer stay coach parking bays are found in Norman Road, to the west of the town centre.

The set–down/pick-up bays in the centre of Greenwich are in Stockwell Street (20 minutes maximum).

By Car

We recommend our visitors to travel to Greenwich via public transport whenever possible. At weekends the popularity of our market makes the roads particularly busy.

If you do travel by car there are off-street pay-and-display car parks in Park Row, Burney Street (behind the Ibis Hotel) and Park Row (to the East of the Old Royal Naval College, a three minute walk away from the town centre).

  • From the north use M25, M11, A12, through the Blackwall Tunnel.
  • From the south use M25, A2 (a fast route straight to Greenwich).
  • From Channel ports or Channel Tunnel, use the M2/A2 or M20/A20 routes.
