Greenwich Hospital is the major landowner in Greenwich town centre with holdings which include homes, shops, offices, restaurants and public houses encompassing College Approach, King William Walk, Nelson Road, Greenwich Market, and a substantial part of Greenwich Church Street. (see map)
About Greenwich Hospital
Greenwich Hospital was granted a Royal Charter in 1694 to provide charitable support to serving and retired men and women of the Royal Navy and Royal Marines, and to their dependants. It devotes its resources to paying pensions, providing grants to naval charities, running three sheltered housing schemes and awarding means tested bursaries at the Royal Hospital School. The Hospital does no fund-raising and its outputs are met entirely from its investments including the Greenwich Estate.
Managing the Greenwich Estate
When managing the Estate, Greenwich Hospital has to balance the desire to optimise income for charitable needs with the responsibility of acting as custodian of a World Heritage Site, supporting local businesses and residential community as well as encouraging parties from outside the locality to invest in the town centre either as customers or providers.
This is achieved by an on site management team based at the Hospital's Estate Office in 6 College Approach, who look after the estate day-to-day supported by an extended team from BNP Paribas (see contacts).
About Shop Greenwich
In the autumn of 2008, Greenwich Hospital Estate created the 'Shop Greenwich' campaign to help place greater focus on Greenwich town centre as a shopping destination. Its goals are to:
Work with all parties to promote Greenwich as a vibrant shopping destination.
Support independent traders and promote the town centre's diversity.
Attract new shoppers and encourage local people to adopt Greenwich as their preferred place to shop.
Provide PR support to shops in the area, generally and specifically through a magazine, website and co-ordination of events.
Lettings
Greenwich Hospital's policy is to encourage parties to embrace the unique location of Greenwich whether they are starting up, expanding or re-locating from another area. As we already work with many local businesses, many of whom began as stallholders within the market, we try to be as flexible as we can with regards to the terms on offer and ensure the letting process is as painless as possible.
If you would like to talk to anyone about the possibility of taking commercial space within the Estate please either contact the management office or the retained letting agents.
